About Us
American Isshinryu Karate Schools opened in Thornton, Colorado, in 1999.
In 2009 we changed the focus of our instruction, directed more to the committed learner. While we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn karate and we are happy to accept beginner as well as advanced students, we are not interested in working with those who are not willing to commit to their training. This means we expect our students to make their training a priority at home on the days they are not in class, and to work hard and learn when they are in class.
We are a private school, accepting only those who are compatible with this focus. If you are interested in learning the best 'old-style' karate from a highly qualified instructor, then please contact us. We do not allow spectators in our classes, but we would be happy to have you join us for a class to determine if your goals and interest are compatible with ours.

Our Instructor, Master Instructor John Holwager, has been training and teaching for more than 35 years. He has traveled extensively to build his knowledge, including trips to Australia, Japan, Okinawa and China.
You won't find a more knowledgeable, better qualified instructor anywhere.
